Northern Pike are the ultimate freshwater predators. Their strikes are intense, followed by powerful head thrashing and fast runs. Targeting them is a thrilling experience with fly rods, spinning rods, lures, and bait.
We focus on fishing for pike in lakes and streams in Bangor and Belgrade Maine. We fish from a dual-deck bass boat for comfort and easy mobility, covering more water. While Northern Pike are invasive to Maine, we see them as an exciting challenge.
The best time to fish for pike is post-spawn. After expending energy during spawning, they’re hungry and aggressive. This is typically from mid-to-late April through early July. We focus on inlets, where water warms faster, and pike are ready to feed.
Best Time to Fish for Northern Pike
Post-Spawn (Early May – Early July) – After spawning in 40-degree water, pike are hungry and active, making this the best time to target them.
