Meet Joe Gaboury – Your Maine Fishing Guide in Bangor & Bar Harbor

I’ve lived in Maine my entire life. I’ve spent time in western Maine, northern Maine, Downeast, mid-coast, and now I live near Bangor, where the rivers, lakes, and nearby Downeast waters continue to shape the way I spend my days. Every part of this state has shaped the way I see the outdoors.

I grew up fishing, hunting, and exploring the woods. Not as a business. Just as something we did. It was normal to be outside. Normal to know the seasons. Normal to understand that weather matters and preparation matters more.

Over time, the outdoors stopped being a hobby and became part of who I am.

I became a Registered Maine Guide because I genuinely enjoy helping people experience things for the first time. Watching someone land their first fish. Teaching a kid how to read water. Seeing someone realize they’re more capable than they thought.

I believe the outdoors should feel accessible, not intimidating.

I’m not the kind of person who pretends to have the fanciest gear or the most polished setup. I care more about understanding fish behavior, reading conditions, and paying attention to the details that matter.

When I’m not guiding, I’m usually fishing myself, experimenting with new techniques, working on boats or gear, golfing, or spending time with my wife Michelle and our boys, Logan and Miles. They remind me why the outdoors matters. It slows things down. It brings people together.

Maine isn’t just a place to me. It’s home.

And I feel fortunate every day that I get to share it.
